MedPluswww.medplus.com MedPlus, the software division of Quest Diagnostics, offers health care providers a comprehensive suite of applications for managing electronic patient records, lab orders and results, and other healthcare documents.
MedPlus brought in J2 to build a data integration framework in Ensemble designed to enable MedPlus applications to seamlessly process lab orders and results for labs both within and outside the Quest network. Orders placed in the system are transformed from Quest's internal message format to several distinct HL7 formats for routing to Quest-owned and third-party labs; the results that come back are then transformed from the applicable HL7 formats back to the native Quest format. J2 also developed a Java class to facilitate communication between Caché / Ensemble and IBM WebSphere MQ’s Java Message Service (JMS) provider. This integration represents a significant step forward in Quest's software application strategy, since it makes the MedPlus application suite a "one-stop shopping" solution for lab orders and results, regardless of whether part or all of a particular order is fulfilled by a Quest lab. Most recently, MedPlus has asked J2 to assist its Care360 application development team by designing and implementing application feature enhancements using Caché WebLink and EWD. What began as a brief "trial run" in 2007 has grown to a two-person engagement on an ongoing basis.
